Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali. Travelers come to enjoy the nightly traditional dances, browse through hundreds of art galleries and fine art museums. The rolling hills invite you to walk. Stroll through pretty villages and verdant padi fields.

Numerous cultural sites are within easy reach. Goa Gajah, Yeh Pulu, Pejeng, Pura Kebo Edan, and the impressive Gunung Kawi.

North of Ubud lies the springs of Tirta Empul, on the way to Batur and Kintamani.

South of Ubud lies the woodcarving centre of Mas, silver smithing town of Celuk and stone carvers of Batubulan. Sukawati has a colorful and busy craft market. Far better than the one in Ubud itself.

Ubud's Art Museums include Museum Puri Lukisan, Neka Art Museum, ARMA and Museum Rudana. The Dali inspired Blanco Museum is also worth a look. ARMA is used as a practice space for Balinese dancing and gamelan.

Ubud is also the spa capital of Bali. Popular spas include Bodyworks, Ubud Sari Health Resort and Nuris.

The "centre" of Ubud is Jalan Ubud Raya and Monkey Forest Road. Many complain that it is now suffering from the blight of tourism! Admittedly, the area is congested when the day-trippers roll in. By 5pm, calm is restored.

Ubud Hotels range from simple losmen to some of the most beautiful and expensive hotels on the planet. Most hotels offer air-conditioning and a small pool. The hotels with splash boast dramatic perches and river mountain vistas.
