Puncak Pass takes you 1500m above sea level. The road from Bogor to Bandung will either enchant you, or make you wonder why you did not take the scenic train ride to Bandung. The view alternates between breathtaking Javanese mountain scenery and ugly pricey motels crammed with weekenders. From Bogor, the road passes Ciawi, Cibogo, Cipayung, Cisarua and finally over the Puncak Pass. Cipanas is the first town over the Puncak. The road then passes the lush padi fields of Cianjur , Ciranjang and then to Bandung. 'Ci' means water in Sundanese and is prefixed to most place names. The whole area is peppered with beautiful rivers and offer pleasant walks and cool climate. Kebun Raya Cibodas is an extension of the Botanical Gardens in Bogor The gardens are actually larger than the ones in Bogor and sit on the saddle between the twin volcanic peaks of Gunung Gede and Gunung Pangrango. Pangrangro National Park contains a blue mountain lake, waterfalls and hot springs. Children will enjoy the Taman Safari which is a vast zoo, complete with kiddy rides and animal shows. At night, there is also the Haunted Mansion near the Taman Safari. An easy stroll from Cisarua will take you to the waterfalls at Curug Cilember.
