Surabaya has little to offer the visitor. Jalan Pemuda is its main district with hotels, restaurants and shopping malls. The old quarter is near the Red Bridge or Jembatan Merah. You will find Dutch colonial buildings, bustling Chinatown and Masjid Ampel in Arab Street. The Masjid Ampel and surrounding lanes make an intresting afternoon stroll and has lots of cheap restaurants selling midle eastern food. It is a better distraction than the other lifeless landmark sculptures that dot Surabaya. Most travelers overnight here and use Surabaya as a stop before going up to Bromo or to Malang.
