The Hotel Gran Mahakam offers luxurious and comfortable rooms in this rather wild part of Jakarta. Blok M is famous for its bars, karaokes, restaurants, night shopping and 2 large malls, all within easy walking distance. Thankfully, the Mahakam is on a leafy side road in the middle of this madness.
The rooms are glitzy. Thick comforters, wooly bedroom slippers, and marble bathtubs. You will not be disappointed. The rooms are as stylish as in any 5 star hotel.
The Breakfast is served on the 2nd floor. It had Japanese, Continental, American, and Indonesian food. Thumbs up for quality, quantity and variety. If you are staying over the weekend, there is a superb brunch, complete with live music.
The pool was a disappointment. It was too small for a hotel of this size. In any case, it was empty the few times we checked.
Needless to say, the Hotel is convenient for the nightlife of Blok M. Otherwise, its still a good choice if you want to stay in South Jakarta. Well worth the splurge.
